چکیده
Context The type of forage offered to horses varies in physical form, moisture content and nutrient quality, these variables could affect the intake, passage rate digestibility consumed. Aims To investigate changes digesta through gastrointestinal tract fed four different forage-based diets (diet effect). Methods Thoroughbred mares (n = 6) were stabled loose boxes for 6 weeks. During Weeks 1, 3 5 (washout periods), all freshly cut pasture, either restricted quantities (Week 1) or ad libitum (Weeks 5). Using a × Latin square design during 2, 4 6, each pair was abruptly transitioned one three conserved (chopped ensiled exclusively with oats, perennial ryegrass hay oats) libitum. At beginning week, indigestible polyethylene markers 200) administered via nasogastric tube, followed immediately by transition new diet. Key results There significant diet effect on daily dry-matter intake feed (P < 0.0001), percentage time spent eating 0.001), frequency voiding faeces 0.05) quantity voided 0.0001). horse 0.0001) but no differences faeces. effects recovery first marker 0.01 P respectively) mean retention 0.05 0.001 respectively). Digestibility and Metabolism in Icelandic Horses Fed Forage-only Diets
The objective of this thesis was to investigate digestibility and metabolism in Icelandic horses fed forage differing in stage of maturity/harvesting date and at two feeding levels. Additional aims were to compare digestibility and metabolic plasma profile in Icelandic and Standardbred horses. Finally, one aim was to estimate the digestible energy (DE) and digestible crude protein (DCP) require...
متن کاملForage and Pasture Management for Laminitic Horses
In the past, many cases of laminitis have been of mysterious origin. Recent investigations in veterinary medicine, coupled with the availability of new techniques for analyzing hydrolyzable carbohydrates in forage may provide evidence to solve some of these mysteries. Fructan has been shown to be capable of inducing laminitis in clinical studies. Insulin resistance, a primary feature of Equine ...
متن کاملPhosphorus balance and fecal losses in growing Standardbred horses in training fed forage-only diets.
This study examined the P balance and fecal P losses in growing Standardbred horses in training fed a forage-only diet with or without P supplementation and assessed the magnitude and proportion of the soluble, inorganic P (Pi) fraction in feces. Fourteen Standardbred horses (aged 20.0 ± 0.3 mo) adapted to ad libitum intake of grass forage containing 0.25% P were used in a crossover experiment ...

This study was performed with growing chicken (14 to 56 d of age) to evaluate the effects of feeding them a barley or triticale-based diet. The treatments were corn diet (1) as a control, hulless barley diet with (5) or without (2) enzyme, triticale diet with (6) or without (3) enzyme and hulled barley diet with (7) or without (4) a commercial β-glucanase enzyme. In a digestibility trial, 21 ma...
متن کاملFrequency of Limb Injuries Between Thoroughbred and Arabian Horses
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between race horse breed and the frequency of limb injuries through the time of training and racing. The study population consisted of 4042 Thoroughbred and 2553 Arabian horses raced at Warsaw race Track, from 2000 to 2008. Among these horses, 94 Thoroughbreds and 32 Arabians had different limb injuries. Based on the achieved results, it is possi...
